Bungie says Marathon will permanently ban cheaters and outlines network security measures
– Cheaters in Marathon will be permanently banned without a "second chance"
– Shooter uses dedicated servers with authoritative control over key player actions and loot
– Invalid client actions will be rejected to prevent teleportation, infinite ammo, increased damage and other manipulations
– Client-side "prediction and rewind" is used to keep movements and actions responsive
– The game uses a "fog of war" so the client lacks info on unseen enemies to combat wallhacks
– Players can rejoin matches after disconnects; Bungie will try to restore starting loot if server errors cause loss
– Open testing begins evening of February 26, with release scheduled for March 5
